<image:caption>These selected works question the American way. One of myriad facets explored is the Buddhist construct the Wheel of Becoming, as a lens for understanding the nature of American societal values. A means of exposing the grey in and between the red, white and blue. Buddhist tradition is, in some measure, about shedding ignorance, desire and aversion; embodied here in the thinly morphed pig, rooster and snake. A path that leads toward enlightenment and, ultimately, an escape. American culture is often about cluelessness on important issues, rampant consumerism and contentious divide. These perspectives are supposed to lead to happiness somehow, and if we are to thrive, indeed they must. Charcoal cuts straight to the essence. It is raw and direct; appropriate to life's wellspring. Taken together the images suggest a bountiful, yet empty life with love and doubt.</image:caption>
